Kim -

My name is Kim Wheeler and I am a new trainer at The Fitness Cellar.  I earned my AFAA Personal Fitness Trainer Certification in March 2008.  Although I am new, I have many years of personal experience in fitness.  I have been interested in health, fitness and exercise for as long as I can remember.  When I was a little kid I would watch exercise shows on TV and imitate them or exercise with my dad, he was a boxer in his younger days.  I started to enjoy running in high school and I regret not running track or cross country, but I was rather shy and lacked confidence back then.  In college I joined a gym and developed a love for resistance training, free-weights and my love for running grew.  I completed my first full marathon in May 2001.  Since then I have qualified for the Boston Marathon twice and completed 7 marathons (with a PR of 3:34) including the Flying Pig in Cincinnati, Columbus Marathon (twice), Air Force Marathon, Nike Womens Marathon in San Francisco, Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC and the prestigious Boston Marathon.  I also compete in half-marathons (PR 1:38 -Flying Pig May 2008), 5ks (PR of 19:50 - RedLegs Run for Home 5k June 2006 ), and distances anywhere in between.   In addition to being a trainer I am also a teacher.  I am the third grade Intervention Specialist at South Vienna Elementary.  I hold a BS from Urbana University and a MA in Classroom Education from Urbana University.  Running, weight-training, and overall fitness has helped me to develop more confidence in myself, relieve stress, improved my overall health and allowed me to reach goals that I never imagined.  As a trainer I hope to share my love and enthusiasm for fitness.   I look forward to helping my clients meet their individual health and fitness goals.
